Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
At Amaka Aesthetics in Nashville, TN, our board-certified plastic surgeon—Dr. Amaka Nwubah— offers blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, to rejuvenate the eyes and restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance. This procedure can address common aesthetic concerns such as drooping eyelid skin, puffiness, and under-eye bags, helping you look more alert and vibrant.

What Are the Different Types of Eyelid Surgery?
Dr. Amaka customizes each blepharoplasty procedure to the patient’s unique needs, and she offers both upper and lower blepharoplasty procedures:
-
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Focuses on removing sagging skin, tightening tissues, and sometimes addressing fat pockets to create a smoother, lifted upper eyelid appearance. This procedure is ideal for patients with drooping eyelids that impair vision or create a tired look.
-
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Addresses under-eye bags, puffiness, and wrinkles by removing or repositioning fat and tightening the skin. This procedure can reduce the appearance of dark circles and rejuvenate the area beneath the eyes.
Some patients benefit from combining both upper and lower blepharoplasty for a more comprehensive rejuvenation. These procedures can also be combined with facial fat grafting, and additional facial rejuvenation techniques for optimal facial balancing. Dr. Amaka will discuss the best options for your goals during your consultation.
What Is Involved in the Eyelid Surgery Procedure?
Blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Upper eyelid surgery can be performed under local anesthesia in the office. The surgery involves small, discreet incisions placed in the natural creases of the eyelids or along the lower lash line, ensuring scars are minimally visible.
For upper blepharoplasty, Dr. Amaka removes excess skin and repositions or removes fat to achieve a lifted, natural appearance. For lower blepharoplasty, excess fat is addressed through either an external incision or a hidden internal incision (known as the transconjunctival approach), and the skin may be tightened as needed.
Most eyelid surgeries are completed in one to two hours, and patients can return home the same day. Recovery is typically quite mild, and patients can resume non-vigorous activities within a few days to a week. That said, bruising and swelling around the eyes can be expected for several weeks after surgery, and some patients choose to take longer periods of time off from work to allow some of these symptoms to subside.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?
The cost of blepharoplasty varies based on factors such as whether the procedure is performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. During your consultation, Dr. Amaka will provide a personalized quote and review your options for financing.
