BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical injectable treatment that temporarily reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines, especially on the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the mouth, and around the eyes (crow’s feet). It works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles.

At Amaka Aesthetics, Dr. Amaka Nwubah, our Nashville plastic surgeon, and Rachel Chenier, PA-C, offer BOTOX® Cosmetic and other neuromodulator treatments to help patients look and feel youthful and refreshed.

What Are Neuromodulator Injections?

Neuromodulators—also called neurotoxins—are a class of injectables known for their ability to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and lines for a smoother, more youthful appearance. BOTOX® Cosmetic is perhaps the most well-known neurotoxin treatment, but other options include Dysport® and Daxxify®.

BOTOX® is derived from botulinum toxin A, and the formula temporarily blocks nerve signals to the muscles around the injection site. By relaxing these muscles, the repetitive movements and contractions that cause wrinkles and fine lines to develop stop. Over the long term, repeated BOTOX® treatments can prevent the formation of new wrinkles, which has made “Baby BOTOX®” or “prejuvenation” increasingly popular with younger patients.

What Are the Benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® injections can produce many beneficial effects, including:

  • Reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Smoother, more youthful-looking skin
  • Long-term use can inhibit the formation of new wrinkles and lines
  • A quick, in-office procedure with no downtime necessary
  • Visible improvements in appearance within a few days to weeks after treatment
  • A customizable treatment that can be tailored to an individual’s goals

In addition to its cosmetic benefits, BOTOX® injections have also been shown to help address conditions such as excessive sweating in the underarms, jaw pain caused by stress on the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and certain types of headaches. During your consultation with Rachel, PA-C, will assess whether BOTOX® or a different neuromodulator is appropriate for your unique case.

How Is the BOTOX® Procedure Performed?

Man getting botoxBOTOX® injections are done in our office by Rachel, PA-C, who possesses an advanced understanding of facial anatomy and safe, effective injection protocols. As needed, a numbing agent may be applied around the injection site(s), and a very thin needle is then used to administer the BOTOX® formula in precise amounts to the targeted areas. Most patients find the treatment process quite tolerable, and each member of our team does everything in their power to ensure you are as comfortable as possible throughout your appointment.

The entire treatment process typically takes less than 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being injected. Most patients can return to work or resume normal daily activities right after their appointment. That said, patients should avoid touching their face as much as possible after treatment. They should also avoid lying down or strenuous exercise for at least a few hours after being injected.

The results of neurotoxin treatments typically begin to appear within a few days to a week, with the full effects emerging around two weeks after injection. Depending on the specific product used, patients should plan to schedule follow-up appointments every 3-6 months to maintain their aesthetic outcomes.

How Much Does BOTOX® Treatment Cost?

BOTOX® is typically priced by unit, meaning that the total cost of treatment varies based on the specifics of your personalized plan. During a consultation, your injector will assess your goals for the procedure and determine how many units of BOTOX® will be needed to achieve your desired outcome. From there, our team can give you a custom price quote.

For patients interested in financing the cost of treatment, our practice partners with several trusted third-party healthcare lending services that can help you set up a payment plan that suits your budget. Dr. Amaka and her team also frequently run specials on BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and other spa treatments to help make the cost of treatment more affordable.
